On the 10th Anniversary of the UN Resolution 1325: Coping with Crises, Ending Armed Conflict - Peace Promoting Strategies of Women and Men

Announcement of the international conference of the Gunda Werner Institute in cooperation with the German Women's Security Council and PeaceWomen Across the Globe

The 10th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security” will be celebrated at the end of October 2010. On this occasion, the Gunda Werner Institute (GWI) in the Heinrich Böll Foundation in cooperation with the German Women’s Security Council is hosting an international conference, designed to critically take stock and develop perspectives for the future implementation of Resolution 1325.

The discussion of gender relations between women and men in regions of crisis and conflict lies at the core of the conference. In what ways are men and women participating in armed conflicts, and how do they contribute to their escalation? What are the conditions to apply UN Resolution 1325?

Lessons learned from countries like Afghanistan, Israel/Palestine, Liberia and Serbia/Kosovo will be presented: How are the different experiences and life conditions of women and men in crisis and conflict impacting on their strategies? How can we halt gender dynamics that escalate conflicts?
Topics like militarised masculinity and sexualised violence, as well as the instrumentalisation of women’s rights for armed intervention are on the agenda.
